Assam Bird Watching Tour

Day 0: Departure from U.K


Day 01: Arrive Delhi

Upon arrival at Delhi international airport meet with our representative and transfer to the hotel. Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 02: Delhi – Guwahati – Nameri National Park

Morning transfer to the airport to board the flight for Guwahati.Upon arrival meet with our representative and drive to Nameri National Park. Upon arrival check into the wildlife camps. In the evening enjoy a nature walk in the forest. Overnight stay at lodge.

Day 03: Nameri National Park

After breakfast we will have full day guided bird watching in Nameri National Park.
The sanctuary is home to some of the endangered species like White-winged Wood Duck, and many other winged species like Grey-capped Pygmy Woodpecker, Himalayan Flameback, Greater Flameback, Great Hornbill, Wreathed Hornbill, Oriental Pied Hornbill, Dollarbird, Crested Kingfisher, Pied Kingfisher, Blue-bearded Bee-eater, Brown Fish Owl, Jungle Owlet, Barred Cuckoo Dove, Great Thick-knee, Ibisbill, River Lapwing, River Tern, Osprey, Pallas's Fish Eagle, Grey-headed Fish Eagle, Bonelli's Eagle, Darter, Purple Heron, Black Stork, Lesser Adjutant, Spangled Drongo, Greater Racket Tailed Drongo, Orange-headed Thursh, Black-breasted Thrush, Pygmy Blue Flycatcher, Black-crested Bulbul, White-throated Bulbul, Abott's Babbler, Puff-throated Babbler, Spot-breasted Scimitar Babbler, Striped Tit-Babbler etc.
Overnight stay in Nameri.

Day 04: Nameri National Park – Kaziranga National Park

Morning we will go for bird watching in the forest. Late in the afternoon drive to Kaziranga National Park, en-route we will stops at some birding sites. Upon arrival at Kaziranga transfer to the wildlife resort.Overnight stay at resort.

Day 05: Kaziranga National Park

Morning after breakfast Jeep safari to the eastern range of national park- this part of the Park is best for birding. Crested Serpent Eagle is common while Palla's Eagle and Grey Headed Fishing Eagle are frequently seen. Others include Greater Adjutant Stork, Bar Headed Geese, Whistling Teal, Pelicans etc. With great luck one might see the endangered Bengal Floricans. Return to the lodge for lunch. After lunch jeep safari to either central range.Overnight stay at resort.

Day 06: Kaziranga National Park

Early morning elephant safari (05:30 am to 06:30 am) to the national park for wildlife viewing. Wake up call half an hour before the ride. Return back to resort for breakfast. After breakfast jeep safari to the western range of the national Park.
Return to the lodge for lunch.
After lunch we will go on nature trek to the Kukurkata Reserve Forest under the Burapahar Range. It has a hilly terrain with mainly tropical moist mixed forest vegetation and a good diversity of birds. A panoramic view of the floodplain and ecosystem of Kaziranga National Park can be seen from the hilltop of Kukurkata.
Later return to the resort for night stay.

Day 07: Kaziranga National Park –Pobitara

After breakfast drive to Pobitara. Upon arrival check into the wildlife resort. After lunch enjoy jeep safari to the national park. Overnight stay at hotel.

Pobitara has a dense population of the Great Indian one-horned rhinoceros. It covers 38.8 km2. Though the total notified area of the park is 38.80 square kms only 16 square kms is the effective rhino habitat. Pobitora was declared a reserved forest in 1971 and a wildlife sanctuary in 1987. It covers flat flood plains and a hillock. The birdlife at Pobitora is very rich with several unique resident birds. Their number is augmented by migrants in winter. There were approximately 7000 resident birds including about 100 cranes, and approximately 5000 migratory birds. Other reports and websites suggest it has 375 species of birds.

Day 08: Pobitara– Guwahati

Early morning Elephant safari to the Pobitara sanctuary.After breakfast bird watching tour within the sanctuary.Afternoon drive to Guwahati.Upon arrival check into to the hotel. In the evening enjoy sunset cruise on Brahmaputra. Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 09: Guwahati – Deporbeel - Guwahati – Delhi

Early morning we will go an bird watching excursion to DiporBil, also spelt DeeporBeel (Lake), is located to the south-west of Guwahati city, in Kamrup district of Assam. It is a permanent freshwater lake, in a former channel of the Brahmaputra River, to the south of the main river. Considered as one of the largest Lake in the Brahmaputra valley of Western Assam.

The lake is a natural habitat to 219 species of birds including more than 70 migratory species are reported in the lake area. The largest congregations of aquatic birds can be seen, particularly in winter, with a reported recorded count of 19,000 water birds in a day. Some of the globally threatened species of birds like Spotbilled Pelican, Lesser Adjutant Stork, Baer’s Pochard, Pallas' Sea Eagle, Greater Adjutant Stork.Spot-billed pelican found in lakes in India. Among the large number of migratory water fowl, the Siberian crane regularly migrates to this habitat during its annual journey. This is in addition to the large congregation of residential water birds seen in the lake.
Considering the richness of the bird varieties found in the lake, the Birdlife International has declared DeeporBeel as an Important Bird Area (IBA) with high priority for conservation.
Later return to hotel for fresh-n-up & breakfast. In the afternoon transfer to the airport to board the flight for Delhi.Upon arrival meet with our representative and transfer to the hotel.Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 10: Delhi - Departure

Transfer to the international airport to board the flight for onward destination.
